Copyright Protections Extend to Music

Posted by admin · Leave a Comment

Copyright protections are important for ensuring that composers get credit and compensation for any of their works that is later performed by another. The need for music copyrighting was encoded into law with the passage of the Copyright Act of 1976. The steps for securing this protection are quite simple. Essentially any piece of music that is written down or “fixed into any tangible medium,” qualifies for the protection. It is common practice, and a good idea, to document that protection on the written piece by calling out the protection on the bottom of the first page of the music. The piece should then be registered with the Copyright Office before the first public performance.

Once there was vinyl. Then audio cassette tapes. Then 8-tracks. Then CD players. Today, all of those have given way to the merits of the MP3 player. What the MP3 has above all of its predecessors is its ability to store large numbers of songs and video. All of that music in one device and the portability of the device make the mp3 music players the most popular form of music storage and playing today.  One example, the Apple iPod Shuffle can hold hundreds of songs which can be searched automatically and which weights less than one ounce. Pianos come in many sizes and shapes and are made with many different materials to achieve many different musical qualities and objectives. The largest and perhaps most recognizable type of piano is the grand piano. There are three types of grand pianos, and from largest to smallest they are: the concert grand, the parlor or boudoir grand and the baby grand piano.Though the look similar, there are a lot of meaningful differences between a baby grand and a concert grand. A baby grand piano is built with shorter and stiffer strings than its concert counterpart, which means that the sounds in a baby grand are comparatively not as “true.”

Posted by Thea,

I have always been a fan of magic tricks.  I remember the very first time that a magician came into our school as a kid.  He did all kinds of beginner street magic and stuff right in front of your face.  Now this kind of stuff is pretty common.  But back then it was very new and very intriguing to me as a boy.  But now that I am older I have been getting into it.  I found the perfect magic tricks for beginners and know that it is just a matter of time until I take my magic and illusions to the next level.

Posted by Gregoria,

There are so many types of Guitars, which should I choose? — It would take pages and pages to describe every type of guitar. I have compiled a list of some of the more popular below. Take a look:

Steel-String Guitar: Thinking of accompanying you guitar playing with some Folk singing? Then you will probably want to play a steel-string guitar eventually. It gives you the crisp sound you hear in a lot of Folk music. Very nice sound.

Archtop: Orville Gibson usually gets credit for this design, which is particularly popular with Blues and Jazz players alike. – Bill Z. Sheers

The Art of Teaching Music to Children Has Evolved

Posted by admin · Leave a Comment

The days of rote learning of piano keys or guitar chords have gone the way of all good things. In the past, kids – and adults for that matter – were taught a new instrument by taking them through long, slow laborious processes that were as repetitive as they were boring for many. Today, children’s music lessons are often designed to teach kids about music in the same way that they learn about most everything else, which is decidedly more holistic in nature. We also now know that in the beginning, spending hours in front of the piano might not be effective as, say, twenty minute spurts. Mastery of any instrument is a function of how much time one spends with it, but in the beginning, shorter sessions can be better.
