My Uncle Needed Medical Attention

In the middle of the night last night there was a terrible noise. It was from the emergency alert button. My uncle moved in with us a few weeks ago and he has a lot of medical problems so I right away jumped out of bed. I knew that something was wrong so first I got dressed quickly and then I took him to the hospital. They were able to get him stabilized and they kept him overnight for observation. I am glad that the monitor that we bought was able to broadcast the emergency signal. I am sure that it saved his life.

I recently purchased an older home in a quaint, established neighborhood. I love everything about it except the drafty walls, especially the ones next to the fireplace. The former owners did major renovations before selling it to me so I do not want to cut open all of the walls in order to correct this problem. I’ve heard that it can be blown in through access holes that are drilled in specific areas. Small holes are a lot easier to fix than whole walls. Besides, I don’t want to ruin the ceramic tiles that were put in around the fireplace in order to get rid of the draft.

Preparing for a Hurricane

A friend of mine just called from Louisiana. He wants to know if I can find some Roll Down Hurricane Shutters up here in Maryland. He can’t find any locally and he wants to prepare for the hurricane season. Apparently his are in bad shape and he’s worried they won’t make it through a major storm. I plan on going out this evening. Hopefully I can find him something as they have two named storms right now. We don’t know if either will hit his area, but why take any chances. If I find enough, I may even offer to pick up some for his neighbors. I can’t imagine having to live through storms like that.

Small Pellet Stoves Provide Excellent Heat

My husband and I built a huge log cabin on a private lake in a secluded part of Northern Arizona.  We both still work, but plan on retiring up there one day.  When we built the house, we built a studio type apartment on one side of the garage.  The garage separates the studio from the main house.  My mother lives in the apartment and takes care of the whole place in our absence.  We looked at several small pellet stoves when we were outfitting the apartment because they are efficient to run and provide an excellent heating solution.
