Tips to Overcome Binge Eating
Binge eating is an eating disorder which involves periods of sudden uncontrolled overeating urges. During this disordered eating phase, the binger typically consumes excessive quantities of food at a very fast pace followed by fasting or exercising to burn the same. However, overcoming binge eating is not that difficult after all. And most people can successfully overcome this disorder with a little determination.Bingers often try to hide the problem from others as they are often embarrassed and depressed about this habit.
Although many people who otherwise, do not have any mental issues, may binge eat sometimes; frequently binge eating may be indicative of an eating disorder. Two eating disorders which are associated with binge eating include Bulimia Nervosa and the Binge Eating Disorder. Binge eating is typically a result of many psychological implications such as stress, loneliness, depression or wrath.
People who experience these emotions often use food to deal with them and therefore end up binge eating. The foods consumed are usually of the feel good variety such as cookies, ice creams etc. however, once the eating is over, the binge eater may find himself/herself faced with feelings of guilt and self hatred. This disorder has serious implications on the general physical and mental wellbeing of the patient.
Therefore, do try to figure out what you could eat, including potential bad foods which would still enable you to maintain your figure. Whenever you feel the urge to binge eat, you can fill yourself with healthy and low fat foods instead of the high calorie options. Control your urge of hunger by eating regular meals. This will ensure you don't overeat later. Fat laden foods should be strictly restricted in the house as these snacks and food stuffs often trigger binge eating.
Stop binge eating is therefore, not that difficult after all. Eating disorders can be life threatening and therefore, one cannot stress enough on the importance of overcoming the risks it holds. The binge eating cycle, however, can be broken with a little willpower. If it still seems difficult, approaching an eating disorder specialist may just do the trick for you.
