Tired of buying water filters

My friends gave me enough trouble about having a bottle of water with me all the time, and how bad it is for the environment. When I thought about the giant pile of empty bottles in a dump somewhere because of me, I gave it up and bought a water pitcher. You just pour the water in the top, and you get clean water. I don’t taste a difference from bottled. But it seems like I’m buying water filters all the time. Every time I have to buy one, it costs me five or six dollars. And is it really any better to throw all these filters in the trash than it is to throw away the bottles?
